Most Effective Home Treat For Itchy Scalp

Dry and itchy scalp is very common, especially during the winter months when the scalp becomes dry and dead skin cells start accumulating, making the scalp itchy and scaly. Dry and itchy scalp can also be caused due to dandruff and other fungal infections of the scalp. You can treat these disturbing symptoms at home itself using home remedies that are as effective or even more than medications and creams that are acquired from chemists and pharmacists. What more, they are also very gentle and easy on your scalp and protect your scalp from any possible side effects as well.

There are many over-the-counter creams, oils, shampoos and conditioners for dealing with the problem. But the best of these hair care products are very expensive and loaded with chemicals that may harm our hair in the long run. The best solution to dry and itchy scalp lies in home remedies that can be easily performed at home remedies.

Sesame Seed Oil

Sesame oil may help combat scalp dryness and relieves itchiness. In his book “Alternative Cures,” Bill Gottlieb recommends massaging warmed sesame oil directly into the scalp before bed each night. For the best results, spend at least 10 minutes working the oil into the entire affected area. Wrap your head in a hot towel and leave on for about 10 minutes before retiring, or allow it to remain all night for optimum moisturizing. Shampoo and rinse your scalp and hair thoroughly in the morning. Continue this treatment as long as necessary.

Mayonnaise

Many of you may raise your eyebrows at this hair treatment but mayonnaise has been known to help cure dry and itchy scalp. It restores the natural moisture of the scalp thus reducing itchiness. Take half a cup plain mayonnaise and add one beaten egg to it. Mix well. This mixture will smell a lot so add two teaspoons of finely powdered coffee to make the smell of the mixture bearable. Apply the mayonnaise mix on your scalp and hair.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a cooling and moisturizing herb and also has several medicinal and healing properties that can restore the heath of your scalp. Apply aloe gel from the plant and leave it on for its action to set in. Aloe can remove all the dead skin cells from the scalp and also destroy any bacteria, lice or dandruff that has irritated your scalp and caused itchiness and dryness. Repeat every day for optimum results.

Honey

Honey is a natural moisturizer and also contains enzymes that help lock in the moisture in the scalp as well as in the hair shafts. Mixing honey with banana or curd is an excellent remedy for dry scalp and hair. Take two ripe bananas and mash them well. Mix 20ml of warm honey with the bananas and apply this natural conditioner to your scalp.
