What Are The Benefits of Tea Tree Oil?

Tea Tree Oil (also known as Melaleuca) is a natural antibacterial disinfectant that was commonly used as a general antiseptic by the aborigine tribes for thousands of years. More recently, the scientific community has confirmed that Tea Tree Oil has tremendous medicinal benefits. It is a light yellow oil that has a scent similar to nutmeg, and it is produced by steaming tea tree leaves and then squeezing the oil out.

The health benefits of Tea Tree Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, balsamic, cicatrisant, expectorant, fungicide, insecticide, stimulant and sudorific substance.

This oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties, and is helpful to treat vaginal infections such as vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis, and yeast infections. It is useful to get rid of unpleasant vaginal odor. Mix tea tree oil in a cup of hot water, and drink this solution once or twice a day, for a few weeks.

Healthy Skin

If you are suffering from blemishes, dark spots, pimple outburst etc, tea tree oil is your saviour. Dab a few drops of this essential oil on a cotton swab and apply it over the affected areas on the skin. You can also use face washes and gels, which contain pure tea tree oil in them.

Treats Acne

Tea tree oil is a popular treatment for acne. This natural antiseptic disinfects the pores as well as kills the bacteria that cause acne.According to a 2007 study published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology, topical application of 5 percent TTO gel is effective in treating mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

Treats Dandruff

In order to treat dandruff, tea tree oil is an effective oil and has strong antifungal properties. It reduces symptoms like itchy and dry scalps. Use this oil after every shower and massage the hairs. But it is not recommended to pregnant females. You can also combine tea tree oil with lavender oil for better results.

Reduces Acne

You must have seen various anti-acne skin creams and face washes which contain tea tree extracts. Studies have shown that tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoly peroxide, to reduce acne. It is a natural alternative for curing acne, without negative side effects like reddening and peeling of skin.
